On the 16th, the Queen Memorial Research Institute under the Thai Red Cross signed a contract with China's Liaoning Chengda Biological Co., Ltd., and China and Thailand will cooperate in the production of human rabies vaccine in Thailand.

According to reports, this cooperation will adopt the mode of providing vaccine semi-finished products and downstream production technology by Chengda Biology, filling, freeze-drying and testing by Queen's Memorial Institute in its GMP workshop and laboratory, and then selling finished products by Thai local drug companies. In addition to meeting the needs of the domestic market in Thailand, the rabies vaccine produced will also be exported to neighboring countries.

Wei Shi, director of the Queen's Memorial Research Institute, said that the Thai government has formulated a series of policies and invested a lot of money to prevent and control rabies, and there is an urgent need to localize a high-quality and reasonably priced human rabies vaccine. The Chengda Suda rabies vaccine produced by Chengda Bio has been widely recognized since it was used in Thailand in 2009. Therefore, the use of Chengda Bio's advanced technology to produce rabies vaccine in Thailand is bound to benefit more Thai people.

Li Ning, chairman of Chengda Biology, said that Chengda began to enter the international market in 2007 and has registered and sold in more than 20 countries, including Thailand, India, the Philippines and Egypt. As of the first half of 2014, Chengda's sales volume in Thailand exceeded 1 million, and the annual sales volume in 2014 is expected to exceed 600000. It has become a leading brand in the field of rabies vaccine in Thailand.

Li Ning said that the cooperation between the two parties will lay a good foundation for China's high-end biological products to go abroad and to the world. It is understood that Chengda Bio will also cooperate with the Thai Red Cross to produce Japanese encephalitis vaccine and other vaccines in the future, and will gradually apply more products and technologies to the prevention and control of infectious diseases in Thailand.

According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, about 60000 people die of rabies every year in the world, of which children are the most affected population. In Asia and Africa, rabies poses a potential threat to more than 3 billion people, and most of the high-risk groups live in rural areas, unable to receive human vaccines and immunoglobulins in time.
