On August 27, 2022, the inaugural meeting of the Japanese encephalitis Prevention and Control Branch of the China Vaccine Industry Association and the first committee meeting were held in Hangzhou. Director Xu Wenbo congratulated the establishment of the Japanese encephalitis prevention and control branch. In his speech, Director Xu said that the global3 billion people live in the epidemic area of Japanese encephalitis. China used to be a big country of Japanese encephalitis. Since the Japanese encephalitis vaccine was included in the planned immunization in 2008, the incidence of Japanese encephalitis has dropped significantly. However, due to its high morbidity and disability rate, the disease burden and health impact of Japanese encephalitis in China can not be ignored. In recent years, there have been outbreaks of adult Japanese encephalitis in some northern provinces, resulting in many challenges in the prevention and control of Japanese encephalitis in China. Antibodies of different genotypes and cross-protection efficiency of Japanese encephalitis still need to be evaluated and continuously monitored, and new vaccines and new genotypes should be developed when necessary. It is hoped that the establishment of the Japanese Encephalitis Branch can play an important role in optimizing the monitoring, detection, prevention and control, risk research and judgment of Japanese Encephalitis in China, as well as formulating scientific prevention and control strategies.

Secretary-General Liu Dawei pointed out that while strengthening the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic, the prevention of other infectious diseases should not be ignored. The Japanese Encephalitis Prevention and Control Branch has gathered nearly a hundred well-known experts and scholars from all levels of CDC, medical institutions, universities and professional academic media. They have a deep professional background and rich work experience. It is hoped that the establishment of the branch can establish a more extensive exchange mechanism. It is expected that experts will share wisdom and experience on this platform, produce important research results as soon as possible, and provide professional suggestions and guidance for the prevention and control of Japanese encephalitis in my country.

Through online voting, the participating members voted to pass the election methods and work regulations of the JE Prevention and Control Branch, and elected the first organizational structure.
